BASF PETRONAS CHEMICALS REINFORCES COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY WITH GREEN INITIATIVES

Saturday, August 9, 2025

Kuantan, Malaysia – Aug 9, 2025 – BASF PETRONAS Chemicals Sdn Bhd is proud to announce the successful completion of its latest environmental initiative aimed at enhancing the coastline and preserving our natural habitats through sustainable practices. The initiative, which took place at Pantai Chendor, Pahang included a mangrove planting activity, a beach clean-up, and a heartwarming event featuring the release of baby sea turtles.

This event brought together more than 400 participants from diverse backgrounds, all dedicated to contributing to the restoration of our coastal ecosystems. Employees of BASF PETRONAS Chemicals, their family members, local authorities, and stakeholders joined forces with the surrounding community, demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental stewardship.

During the event, participants planted a total of 3,000 mangrove saplings, specifically Rhizophora Apiculata (bakau minyak) and Rhizophora Mucnorata (bakau kurap), under the guidance of our collaboration partner, the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) Pahang Branch. This significant effort is part of BASF PETRONAS Chemicals' ongoing commitment to adopting green initiatives that not only strengthen local ecosystems but also foster community engagement and awareness about the importance of environmental conservation.

“We are thrilled to see such an incredible turnout for this event,” said Tan Aik Meam, Managing Director of BASF PETRONAS Chemicals. “Our goal is to work hand-in-hand with the community, local authorities, and environmental organisations to preserve the beauty and biodiversity of our coastline. Projects like these are vital for enhancing our natural environment and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.”

In addition to the mangrove planting, the beach clean-up allowed participants to actively engage in preserving the shoreline, highlighting the importance of cleanliness and sustainability in coastal areas. The highlight of the day was the release of 150 baby sea turtles, a symbolic gesture representing hope and the need for collective action in protecting marine life.

BASF PETRONAS Chemicals remains committed to supporting eco-friendly initiatives and inspiring communities to take part in creating a greener and more sustainable world. We look forward to continuing our efforts and invite everyone to join us in future environmental activities.
